How to choose a speech and language therapist

Speech and language therapy is funded by the NHS in the UK. This may be accessed via a Gender Identity Clinic (GIC), or a local NHS provider, such as the local NHS Trust Speech and Language Therapy Service for Adults. You should discuss a referral to a speech and language therapist with your GP.

Trans individuals may also access free courses provided at the LGBT Foundation in Manchester, as part of the Trans Programme.
All speech and language therapists in the UK are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). You can check that your therapist is registered by visiting the website. The Check the Register tool is on the front page.

Speech and language therapists in the UK may also optionally be members of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and/or the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice.
